4. Bronx Community Solutions: An Introduction


Bronx Community Solutions seeks to re-engineer the response to low-level crime in the Bronx, New York. By providing judges with additional sentencing options for non-violent offenders, Bronx Community Solutions reduces the reliance on short-term jail sentences and offers defendants the assistance they need to avoid further criminal conduct. This video was produced in 2015 to celebrate Bronx Community Solutions' 10th anniversary.

Bronx Community College is bringing in a new company to run the cafeteria, and the administration has refused to make sure the new company hires all the current workers. The workers are members of UNITE HERE Local 100, and have negotiated a contract with full family health benefits.

15. Terrance Coffie: NYU American Story


Terrance Coffie, who started his educational career while incarcerated, went on to earn his GED, graduate from Bronx Community College, and later NYU Silver School of School of Social Work. With the support of a transitional program called The Doe Fund and the love of his family Mr. Coffie went on to achieve academic excellence, receiving both "The Excellence In Leadership Award" and "The Presidents Service Award" From NYU. Terrance has since been accepted to attend Grad School and has helped start "The Pathways Program" which assists young men lacking resources and connects them to educational opportunities. Many of the men who Terrance mentors have gone on to graduate with degrees of their own.
