STEP 1
We admitted we were
powerless over alcohol - that
our lives had become
unmanageable.
STEP 2
Came to believe that a Power
greater than ourselves could
restore us to sanity
STEP 3
Made a decision to turn our
will and our lives over to the
care of God as we understood
Him.
STEP 4
Made a searching and fearless
moral inventory of ourselves.
STEP 5
Admitted to God, to ourselves,
and to another human being
the exact nature of our wrongs.
STEP 6
Were entirely ready to have
God remove all these defects
of character.
STEP 7
Humbly asked Him to remove
our shortcomings.
STEP 8
Made a list of all persons we
had harmed, and became
willing to make amends to
them all.
STEP 9
Made direct amends to such
people wherever possible,
except when to do so would
injure them or others.
STEP 10
Continued to take personal
inventory and when we were
wrong promptly admitted it.
STEP 11
Sought through prayer and
meditation to improve our
conscious contact with God as
we understood Him, praying
only for knowledge of
His will for us and the power
to carry that out.
STEP 12
Having had a spiritual
awakening as the result of
these steps, we tried to
carry this message to
alcoholics, and to practice
these principles in all
our affairs.

4. TWP Bonus Episode: What Is the Oxford Group Part One
Jean Brown from Adelaide, Australia traces her life-long connection to the Oxford Group back for three generations. The Group later became known as Moral Rearmament and still operates as Initiatives of Change. In this two-part interview, Jean shares her personal story of change while shedding light on the original principles and practices that gave birth to the program of Alcoholics Anonymous. Jean is the author of “A Serious Guide to Remaking the World.” A free copy of this informative pamphlet is available in the Show Notes.

14. Jay S. – AA History (Part 2): Oxford Group Origins and Connection to AA
This is the second of a three-part series on the early history of AA, starting with its genesis in the Oxford Group. Here Jay S. focuses on OG founder Frank Buchman, the events leading to the spiritual experience which inspired him to start the Group, his first success with an alcoholic, and the sobering up of the Akron drunk which brought the Group to that city. Attending its first meeting were Dr. Bob and the two individuals who would eventually link him up with Bill W.: the Rev. Walter F. Tunks and Henrietta Seiberling. Note: given the nature of the topic, there’s a lot of religious talk here. Nevertheless, this is part of our history, and the message is one AA adopted: that the practice of spiritual principles can get us sober and change our lives for the better. For more on this early history, see the Jay S. Part 1, Rowland H., Sam Shoemaker, and Richard Walker videos in this playlist. In the PTP website, see “AA and the Oxford Group,” in Reflections.
[Image: T. Henry and Clarace Williams, in whose home Dr. Bob and early founding members of AA attended Oxford Group meetings. In one of many "coincidences," T. Henry worked for the rubber company involved in the proxy fight which brought Bill W. to Akron.]
